CAID RAID (What happened last Friday @ Funk Night)

We are in contact with the ACLU to see if there is a possibility of getting them involved because of the civil liberties related to this incident. A private lawyer who I just spoke with who volunteers for the ACLU has asked me to contact everyone who was there and have them write a recollection of what happened to them, others around them, what the police did and said, their contact information including name, education and any criminal history. We are asking that this notice be sent out to as many people to ensure we have reached everyone who was there. The lawyer said that if the ACLU gets involved that they will represent everyone free of charge. He wants to meet with everyone tomorrow to give them information and advice. Those who were there should contact the CAID at info@thecaid.org with their information and we will send the place and time of this meeting. Also, no one who was there should share their recollections on blogs or any other publicly accessed medium or with anyone else who was there.

This meeting will also provide answers related to the impounding of the vehicles. Please bring your tickets and any impound related documents.

While I am appalled at the gross violations of people's civil rights, I'm waiting to hear the leadership of CAID accept any responsibility for the situation. The fact remains, you have been selling alcohol without a liquor license for some time. You are a non-profit organization that has enjoyed the support of hundreds of artists in this city for several years. It is the responsibility of the board of directors to be aware of the law and to follow it - this is just plain common sense and good leadership. I find it hard to continue supporting an organization that cannot get its act together on the simple stuff - never mind the hard stuff. I want to hear the leadership of this organization stop deflecting attention from their own bad governance by focusing exclusively on the actions of the police. You need to call yourselves to action - Detroit's artists did not create the situation.

We live in a fascist state where mind controlled "liberals" are "Appalled" at the 'gross violations' of civil rights.. Assigning the blame to the "Law Breakers". It was CAID responsibly for the "Gross" violations. If CAID would jus take off their shoes before they board the plane of laws ( they protect you ) this "Gross Violation" would never had happened.
Obviously what occurred at Funk Night was not an act of a purposeful civil disobedience, tho it publicized "Gross" violations of Civil Rights" and an unjust application of law.
This should... No it will appeal to the conscience of the public.. To demand negotiations with recalcitrant officials and to, as Thoreau would say "Clog the Machine". The defiance of the "Pharaoh".. Rosa Parks, Thoreau, Gandhi, and King defied laws.
I agree with Thoreau who said "Individuals are Sovereign, especially in a democracy, and the government only holds its power by delegation from free individuals"
And to the anonymous individual who said " I want to hear the leadership of this organization stop deflecting attention from their own bad governance by focusing exclusively on the actions of the police"
Cram it up your pompous ASS

Listen, while I am pleased that all of you are communicating your points of view and conversing amongst yourselves, you have to consider one major point before pointing your finger at CAID or anyone else for that matter. Whether or not CAID can lawfully serve its members alcohol at our parties is not in question here, as they did not get a ticket for that! The whole premise of all the tickets issued that night is simply that everyone there (employees and patrons alike) were contributing to an illegal establishment, which CAID clearly is not. Businesses get tickets for serving alcohol illegally all the time. The police do not impound everyone's car and issue tickets to everyone at the bar or establishment. Yes, it clearly is a civil rights issue. The police violated CAID's members by treating them as criminals, but seriously, you can't expect CAID to take responsibility for something that they have no control over. Furthermore, who do you think got the ACLU involved? It was CAID, of course. They did that to try to help the victims of that night's police-state nightmare. Not to mention they have been taking up donations to help off-set some of the costs since the whole thing happened.
I'm not suggesting that CAID does not have some changes that need to be made in order to insure everyone's safety from the Detroit Police. Surely they can do things differently and hopefully everyone can get along. Suggesting that CAID is responsible for this situation, however, is just childish. Blame is not always black and white. In fact, it basically never is. Rather than posting your negative feelings about how Aaron Timlin or anyone else should run CAID, why not try to offer up solutions. You obviously care enough to post on the blog. One love, fam.

Well put, Anonymous. You're right. You are as innocent as a child. If you'd like to have some discourse I'm sure anyone of us at CAID would chat you up. Don't post nonsense on our blogs that doesn't mean anything.
